Our Fabulous Staff

Deanne Roberg
Owner / Founder

Deanne Roberg founded Deanne's Dance Studio in 1972, fusing two of her loves - children and dance - into a single vision: using the art of dance to instill self-esteem in children, and inspiring them to become their personal best.  Deanne's mother Stephanie was a professional dancer and instructor, and Deanne followed in her mother's footsteps, beginning her teaching career at age seventeen.

Deanne’s kind teaching style and choreographic skills kept her in demand with professional and community theatres as well as local schools.  She was a founding board member of Child’s Play Theatre (now known as the Stages Theatre).  Her love of the stage led her to create the studio’s Novelty (Theatrical) dance classes.  Through these classes she instilled confidence - bringing even the most timid child out of their shell.

During her 40 years serving families in Minnetonka and the surrounding area, Deanne cherished every first dance class, wiggly tooth, new baby sibling, story about school, first date, prom picture, graduation, visit home from college, wedding, and finally - completing the circle - every time a former dancer brought their little one for their own first dance class.  Deanne never waivered in her belief that this studio is first and foremost about the kids.

From the first student to those now numbered in the thousands, she not only taught them to love dance, but more importantly to love themselves. Deanne was always striving to help her students be, as she says, “Not only the best dancer possible, but the best person possible.”  Deanne is now retired, a proud mom and grandma, and all of us at the studio strive to live up to her standards and continue her vision.

Juli Mickelson
Dance Director

Juli was previously associated with Deanne's for 20 years as a student, bookkeeper and an instructor. She also ran Deanne's former satellite programs in Orono, Chanhassen, and Norwood/Young America. On her years with Deanne's she says, "Deanne instilled my love of dance and also my love for children. They are the reason I teach and want to bring dance into their lives. Deanne showed me how to care for them and lovingly guide them through their dance experience. Deanne was my role model and I always wanted to live up to her teaching standard."

Following her inspiration, Juli studied many forms of dance, thriving in the study of classical ballet. She studied intensively with Branitski Ballet Company, Andahazy Ballet, American School of Russian Classical Ballet, Fort Worth Ballet, and Minnesota Dance Theatre. She performed in numerous ballets including Loyce Houlton’s Nutcracker Fantasy, Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, and Swan Lake and was a dance major at Texas Christian University. She is also an accomplished choreographer of dance performances and musicals. In 2002 she founded Dance Endeavors in Bloomington, growing it to four active studio spaces. Finally, perhaps also inspired by her time with Deanne, Juli has an Accounting degree from Augsburg.
